Check In

Alrighty then.....Saturday night and time to check in. The web site looks simple enough.

LO046 to Warsaw and LO389 to Berlin......the check in was easy as can be on a Saturday night at 11:30. A good sign? Well, actually, not so smooth. I was able to check in to the initial flight but the connecting flight is leaving at 6:15pm Warsaw time so I cannot check in to that. Weird...usually can check in to the connecting flight at the same time. Plus cannot print a boarding pass. Looks like this will all take place at the airport tomorrow. Hmmmmm.......

The Countdown Has Started

It's Friday and only a few more sleeps until LOT flight LO46 gets underway. You know, there was a small point of interest I forgot to mention in my previous posts. LOT Polish airlines is the national airline of Poland. Besides a slight issue with no landing gear (see previous post below), LOT has a decent safety record. I am in business class, and have a seat that looks to be one of the best in the section with lots of room and a window. So what is the small point of interest? Ahhhhh......read on.....

It seems that LOT does not fly it's plane direct out of Toronto to Warsaw on this flight. Nope. That would be too easy.Instead they code share with another carrier. And who is this mystery carrier? Wellllllll.....it is funny you should ask. It is...................

Yes. The lovely Ukrainian Aerosvit Airlines!!! Wow! How much more luck can a guy have!!! Not only do I get to fly into Warsaw on an airline I had never heard of, I get to fly on a plane of another airline that has even less recognition!!One good thing is their safety record. Only one crash noted in 1997 and even though all the passengers and crew died, it was not on an international flight. Thats good, right? Right????

I am sure everything will go well. This is a weekly flight and it should be safe and fine. We will all know soon. Hopefully it will not be like this.

Is This What I Can Expect?

So I thought I would look for a warm and fuzzy video to post on here in preparation for my upcoming LOT trip on Sunday. Well, I did find warm......I am sure the people inside this lovely 767 felt a little fuzzy as they approached the runway. What are the odds, right? Right??????

LOT Business Class - A review

Let me start at the beginning. On occasion, my job calls for me to fly to different places for meetings or training. The company I work for has an excellent policy for flying which includes using business class for overseas flights. This is not always a cheap way to go, but for the safety and comfort of their employees, this is a wonderful perk to have.

My last few flights to Europe were with Lufthansa Airlines, with the flight to Europe from Canada code shared with Air Canada. What perfect flights those were. The Air Canada lounge is a nice place to relax and work while waiting for the flight, and the business class pods in the plane allowed for comfort and a good nights sleep. How grand!

Next week I am going to Berlin for a meeting. While searching for flights last month, business class flights with Air Canada, Luthansa, Air France, KLM, or almost any other major carrier were costing over $5000.00. But there was one option that was almost half price. For some reason, LOT Polish Airlines was $2500 for the business class flight. Oh wait.....there are a few reasons for this cost.....lets see.....

I leave Sunday night at 10:30. not so bad for a regular 9 hour flight with a 6 hour time difference. If it was direct, or had one small stop, I would find myself rested and ready in Berlin on Monday around 2:00 in the afternoon. Nice......but wait. This flight has a 6 hour stop over in WARSAW POLAND! With this I arrive in Berlin at 7:30 pm. A long day.......

OK....well, at least there is a lounge there. And hey, I have never seen Poland before. Not that I will really see Poland....just the airport........So the whole idea of this blog is to give a detailed story of my experience. I tried to find some reviews of the trip but there is nothing recent. This might help others decide whether saving $2500 is worth it......the journey begins in 5 days.....
